Westmorland and Furness Council is inviting residents to comment on the Morland Neighbourhood Plan, a community-led initiative to shape local development and preserve the area's historic character.

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking public input on the Morland Neighbourhood Plan, which aims to guide the future development of the area. Neighbourhood planning empowers communities to influence local growth and development.
The plan, developed by Morland Parish Council, prioritises maintaining and enhancing the village's historic character, particularly its Village Character Area, while ensuring sustainable development to meet community needs. Key objectives include ensuring new developments respect traditional character through design and materials, protecting open spaces, managing housing growth to meet local needs, and supporting existing and new businesses to maintain local services.
A six-week public consultation period began on Wednesday 21 October and will close on Wednesday 2 December 2026. Residents are encouraged to share their views.
“

"Developing a Neighbourhood Plan is a significant undertaking but can be a powerful way for communities to directly influence how they develop. I would encourage anybody who has a view on the Morland Neighbourhood Plan to have their say."

Vicky Hughes · Cabinet Member for Planning and Active Well Being
