Residents are invited to gather for services and parades in every township within Hyndburn to remember the sacrifices made in past and present conflicts. The events aim to bring the community together in reflection and to honour those who have fought for peace.
Cllr Stewart Eaves, Hyndburn Council Armed Forces Champion, encouraged residents to attend. "Our community comes together every year to honour our fallen heroes... I would encourage all Hyndburn residents to attend and show their support," he stated.
Remembrance Sunday on 8 November will feature services and parades organised in conjunction with the Royal British Legion. Following this, a short service will be held at The Accrington Pals Memorial Garden on Church Street, Accrington, on Armistice Day, 11 November, commencing at 10:45am. Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Noordad Aziz, and representatives from the Royal British Legion and the council for the two minutes' silence.
Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Noordad Aziz, expressed his honour in attending the Remembrance Sunday service in Great Harwood. "There is no way we can ever truly repay them, but we can begin by gathering as a community to honour them and the values they gave their lives for," he said.
Several road closures will be in effect across the borough to facilitate the parades and services. These include closures in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood, Rishton, and Clayton-Le-Moors on specific dates and times. Details of these closures are available on the Hyndburn Council website.
A detailed schedule of parades and services includes events in Accrington, Altham, Baxenden, Church, Clayton-Le-Moors, Great Harwood, Huncoat, Oswaldtwistle, and Rishton, with timings for processions, services, and wreath-laying ceremonies.
