The temporary library service will operate from Downey House, the historic former home of the Cooper family and now St Paul's Parish Centre. The move ensures residents can continue to access book lending services within their community while the main library building is made safe and accessible for the future.
The temporary Royton Library at Downey House will be open from 9am to 5pm on Mondays and Saturdays, and from 9:30am to 1pm on Saturdays. A collection of popular adult and children's titles will be available for borrowing.
Subnum Hariff-Khan, Head of Heritage, Libraries and Arts for Oldham Council, stated: "We know how important Royton Library is to local residents and we're pleased to be able to continue delivering a library service within the community while these essential repairs take place. We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out to secure the future of this important library building."
During the closure, residents can also access services at other libraries across Oldham, including Crompton Library, Chadderton Library and Wellbeing Centre, Failsworth Library and Town Hall, Fitton Hill Library and Neighbourhood Centre, Limehurst Library, Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre, Northmoor Library, Delph Library, Uppermill Library, Greenfield Library, and Lees Library and Community Hub.
A wide range of digital library services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, and online reference resources, are also available through Oldham Libraries' online service at hla.oldham.gov.uk/libraries.
Oldham Council will provide further updates on the repair programme and confirm a reopening date for Royton Library once more information is available. For more details on library services and alternative locations, visit hla.oldham.gov.uk/libraries.
