A 4.5-acre brownfield site in Altrincham, currently used for parking, has been approved by Trafford Councillors for residential development, aiming to deliver over 100 new homes.

The Trafford Council’s Executive Committee has agreed that the 4.5-acre brownfield site, located between Oakfield Road and Moss Lane, should be prioritised for housing. The land is situated next to Planet Ice, Move Altrincham, and the Altrincham Interchange.
Currently, the site offers parking for 320 vehicles and includes a secure cycle shelter. The exact number of homes proposed will be determined by future plans, which are still in the early stages of development. A new masterplan for the area has received funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
A prior agreement with a developer from 2007 was terminated due to a lack of progress, leading to the Council regaining control of the site. Councillors opted to focus on residential development over retail to maximise the site's benefit for local residents.
The next steps involve 'de-risking' and preparing the site for sale, with an estimated cost of £400,000. Half of this cost is expected to be covered by the GM Good Growth Fund.
“

"We are delighted. We now have a clear way forward. The site has been pending redevelopment for some years. We look forward to bringing the land back to life."

Cllr Liz Patel · Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration
Further consultations and approvals will be required for future housing plans.
