The Westmorland and Furness Libraries are launching the Menopause Collection as part of their commitment to supporting health, wellbeing, and lifelong learning. Menopause, a natural stage of life, can often feel overwhelming or isolating.
The collection has been carefully curated by Dr Cath Munro, a GP and menopause specialist based in Kendal. It aims to help readers navigate the physical, emotional, and social changes of midlife with confidence.
Dr Munro stated the collection is designed to inform, support, and empower women. She said: “The menopause journey can be a challenging time for women. It is important to me to ensure women feel supported with holistic, evidence-based information that provides them with the tools they need to navigate their own journeys. I really hope that this collection will help people of all ages to understand their own experiences and to prepare themselves or support others through this time.”
The collection offers evidence-based information, practical guides, personal stories, and expert advice. Topics covered include the science of menopause, hormones, and women’s health. It also features books on fitness, nutrition, and maintaining confidence, intimacy, and healthy connections during midlife.
Councillor Helen Chaffey, the Cabinet Member for Culture, commented on the resource: “At challenging times in life, it is always helpful to know where to find the most trustworthy sources of information, support and reassurance. I want to thank Dr Cath Munro for her contribution: this Menopause Collection is a fantastic resource full of with reliable information and positive strategies for navigating this important life stage.”
Customers can borrow any book from the collection for free with their library card. If a book is unavailable, it can be requested and delivered to their local library.
