The spectacular event, which also featured over 2,000 fireworks, is the 37th annual Fireshow and was organised in conjunction with Merlin Fireworks Ltd. A 'Fireshow village' in the Castle car park offered additional food and family entertainment.
The Fireshow celebrated Cumberland's countdown to the Tour de France, with the Grand Départ in 2027 set to begin in Edinburgh and finish its opening stage in Carlisle on Friday 2 July. Stage Two will start in Keswick on Saturday 3 July, passing through the Lake District and Lancashire before reaching Liverpool.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, praised the event for bringing communities together in a safe environment. She thanked the events team, stewards, Merlin Fireworks, emergency services, and local businesses and organisations for their support and preparation.
Support was also provided by BBC Radio Cumbria, Brampton Pallets, BWS Timber, Carlisle Rotary Club, Cumbria Waste Recycling, Johnstone’s Decorating Centre, Travis Perkins (Currock Road), and Wallace Oils. The Cumbria Army Cadet Force - Harraby Detachment assisted with post-event litter picking.
Visitors were encouraged to support local charities, with donations going to Rotary in Carlisle and Every Life Matters, the chosen charities of the Chair of Cumberland and the Mayor of Carlisle.
