Over 130 young people from Stockport schools explored a wide array of health and social care careers at the second annual Jobs Safari held at Stockport Town Hall.

Around 130 young people from schools across Stockport participated in the second annual Health and Social Care Jobs Safari at Stockport Town Hall. The event, a collaboration between Stockport Council and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, provided an opportunity for individuals aged 14 to 16 to engage with professionals from the health and care sector and learn about the diverse career options available.
More than 16 professions were represented, with students attending 15-minute small-group sessions. This format allowed them to hear directly from professionals about their roles, explore less-considered career paths, and ask questions regarding qualifications, career progression, and daily responsibilities. Representatives from various health and social care services highlighted the breadth of opportunities, catering to different skills, interests, and ambitions, including patient-facing and behind-the-scenes support roles.
The Jobs Safari aims to challenge perceptions of working in health and social care and to inspire future local professionals. Following the success of the inaugural event, which attracted approximately 150 young people, organisers were pleased with the strong turnout from schools throughout the borough.
“

"The Health and Social Care Jobs Safari is a fantastic opportunity for young people to discover the huge variety of careers available right on their doorstep. Many people think of only a few professions when they consider working in health and care, but the reality is that the sector offers hundreds of rewarding and exciting roles. By meeting professionals face-to-face and hearing about their experiences, young people can gain a better understanding of the pathways available to them and the difference they could make to people’s lives. I’d like to thank everyone who helped make the event a success and inspire the workforce of the future."
