Residents interested in representing local people and contributing to decisions affecting the area are being encouraged to consider standing as a candidate for the Royton North By-Election. The deadline for nominations is 4pm this Friday.
The by-election was called due to a vacancy in the ward. If only one valid nomination is received, that candidate will be elected without a contest. Should more than one nomination be submitted, residents will vote on Thursday 3 December 2026 to elect their new councillor.
This election presents an opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to voice the interests of their community, address resident concerns, and actively shape the future of Royton North and the wider borough. Councillors serve as a link between the council and the community.
Prospective candidates can obtain a nomination pack from the Elections Office at the J.R. Clynes Building, Cultural Quarter, Greaves Street, Oldham, OL1 1AL, between 9am and 5pm. Packs can also be requested via email at election@oldham.gov.uk.
Completed nomination papers must be submitted in person and cannot be accepted via email, post, fax, or any other electronic method. Papers should be delivered to the J.R. Clynes Building between 10am and 4pm, with the final deadline being 4pm on Friday 6 November. Candidates are advised to book an appointment to submit their papers by contacting the Elections Team at election@oldham.gov.uk.
