Rochdale Borough Council has celebrated the significant achievements of over 200 children and young people in its care during a special awards ceremony held at Matthew Moss High School.

Hundreds of medals were presented to young individuals up to the age of 12 at the council’s annual ‘Our Big Day’ event. The ceremony recognised the individual and group accomplishments of young people in care, following 273 nominations submitted by carers, social workers, and teachers.
The awards paid tribute to the unique journeys of these young people, highlighting their roles as outstanding role models, their care towards others, and their demonstration of determination, resilience, and a positive attitude. Recognitions were also given for positive engagement or progress in education, vocational or sporting achievements, and outstanding efforts in extracurricular activities.

"Nothing fills me with greater pride in my role than hearing about the tremendous achievements of our cared for children and getting the opportunity to celebrate their individual successes during Our Big Day. They are all exceptional young people and show phenomenal determination to be their very best and this doesn’t go unnoticed by those around them. They are an absolute credit to themselves on what they have accomplished, often in the face of adversity, and they send an inspiring message to so many that no matter what life may throw at you, you will not let this stand in your way to achieve the very best for you."
