Trafford Council's 'Our Creative Lives' project has engaged hundreds of residents in creating original artwork and performances, celebrating the unique cultural strengths of nine distinct community areas.

The Our Creative Lives project, commissioned by Trafford Council, has seen local organisers and residents collaborate across nine areas of Trafford. Each neighbourhood is being empowered to shape its own cultural ambitions through the guidance of selected local organisations.
Artist commissions took place throughout the summer in each of the nine areas. These initiatives provided opportunities for communities to produce original art that celebrates local identity, ranging from murals to theatrical performances. The focus was on engaging individuals who do not typically participate in arts and culture, ensuring a wide array of voices are recognised.
By fostering connections between local people, creatives, and community organisations, Our Creative Lives supports Trafford Council’s objective of delivering culture, sport, and heritage for all residents. The council aims to enrich lives and opportunities through culture and creativity, recognising that Trafford is home to a significant portion of Greater Manchester’s creative sector workforce.
Cllr Eve Parker, Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage at Trafford Council, highlighted the transformative power of culture. She stated, “Culture has the power to change lives, improve wellbeing and bring communities together, and Our Creative Lives is helping us build a strong foundation for Trafford’s future cultural ambitions.” She extended thanks to all involved for their enthusiasm and commitment.
Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, expressed his privilege in witnessing the project's success across Trafford and meeting the residents, artists, and community organisations who contributed to it.
Funding for the project was provided through Local Authority Flexible Grant funding, with Trafford Council awarding grants to lead organisations. This support encourages ongoing community engagement, strengthens local partnerships, and promotes creative, leisure, and nature-based activities via Trafford Is, the borough’s new online listings platform. Additional funding from Arts Council England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority is also supporting artists in developing new creative work.
