Professor Tony Warne, Chair of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, has announced he will step down at the end of his term of office.
Professor Tony Warne will conclude his tenure as Chair of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust when his current term ends. He has served in the role for nearly three years, having joined the Trust in January 2024.
Professor Warne brings over 40 years of experience in mental health services, encompassing clinical, management, and academic roles across the North West. During his chairmanship, he has guided the Trust through a significant period of improvement and recovery.
Known for being a visible and approachable Chair, Professor Warne regularly visited services throughout Greater Manchester, engaging with colleagues, service users, carers, and families. He consistently emphasised the importance of listening to the experiences of those who use and support the Trust's services.
“
"It has been an absolute privilege to serve as Chair of GMMH. I am grateful to everyone who has played a part in the Trust’s progress and I have seen how much colleagues want to make a positive difference for service users, carers and families. Throughout my time at GMMH, I have had the opportunity to meet many dedicated colleagues and partners as well as service users, carers and family members. What they have shared has been an important reminder that improvement must be grounded in people’s real experiences of care. There is still important work ahead, but by continuing to listen and learn, GMMH can provide better care and support for the people and communities it serves. I wish Chris, the new executive team and everyone at GMMH every success for the future."
Chris Oliver, Chief Executive of GMMH, expressed gratitude for Professor Warne's leadership and dedication. He highlighted Professor Warne's experience and steady support as making a significant contribution during a period of substantial change for the Trust.
