Residents in the Barnoldswick area have been alerted to a heightened risk of power cuts after metal theft damaged part of the local electricity network. Engineers have been working on site since last night to repair the damage and minimise disruption.
While the electricity supply remains active, Northern Powergrid is advising residents of the increased risk. The company stated that if power is interrupted, affected customers will be kept informed via text messages and email updates where possible. Advice on preparing for a power cut is available on the Northern Powergrid website.
The company acknowledged that this situation may be concerning, especially for those who rely on electricity for medical equipment or have care needs. While teams are ready to provide support, customers are encouraged to ensure they are prepared and to discuss alternative arrangements with their medical equipment providers if necessary. Registered Priority Services Membership customers will receive additional support during and after any power outage.
Customers experiencing a power cut can report it online via the Northern Powergrid website or by calling 105. Priority Service customers can contact a dedicated line on 0800 169 2996. West Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident, and anyone with information is urged to contact them on 101 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
