An anti-bullying display created by a young Ukrainian refugee, Zhanna, is now on show at the Living Well Hub in Warrington, sharing her personal experiences and promoting kindness.
An inspiring anti-bullying display, titled I Am Still Here, has been installed at the Living Well Hub in Warrington. The exhibition was created by school pupil Zhanna, who arrived in the UK after fleeing Ukraine with her mother.
The display reflects Zhanna's feelings about leaving her previous life and friendships behind, and her journey to settle into her new home. It highlights the challenges of adapting to a new language and a new school environment as she worked to "find her place".
“"I created I Am Still Here because I wanted to show feelings that are often difficult to talk about. When I came to the UK, I had to learn a new language and start again in a new school, and sometimes I felt invisible and afraid to speak."
“"I hope my project encourages people to look a little more carefully at the person standing beside them, because sometimes someone may need kindness and understanding more than we realise."
Councillor Matt Smith, the cabinet member for children, families and education, praised the display's vital message. He stated, "Zhanna’s display shares a vitally important message, and serves as a reminder that we need to look out for each other, and that nobody should be made to feel invisible."
Cllr Smith described the exhibition as "thought-provoking, challenging and humbling" and encouraged residents to visit the Living Well Hub to see it. He also extended thanks to the staff at the Living Well Hub for their accommodation and to Councillor Paul Warburton for his support of the project.
I Am Still Here is on display at the Living Well Hub during its normal opening hours until Friday 9 October.
